In the late 1930s, Homer Laughlin created a new process for making dinnerware that was thinner and stronger than the product they had used previously. The shapes and lines created in this process was called Eggshell, and the first product made using this process was Nautilus. We offer Nautilus, as well as other complementing designs in this collection from a wide variety of makers. Bowls are rented without lids.

This rental includes an assortment of designs by Meito, Monarch, Noritake, and Royal Derby, arguably the oldest remaining English porcelain manufacturer. Known for its high quality bone china, the company has been in production since 1750. It was originally called Derby Porcelain until 1773 when it was renamed Crown Derby.

Lorenz Hutschenreuther, son of Carolus Magnus Hutschenreuther, expanded the family's porcelain factory by opening a location in Selb. Lorenz's soft designs are included in this package, as well as those by Noritake, Habsburg Austria, Meito, and others.

Bowls from RMS Wittelsbach, Germany, Noritake, and Rosenthal Bavaria make fruit, sauce, and other condiment presentations, stunning with simple designs from simple beginnings. For example, Phillip Rosenthal began business in 1884 by purchasing white ware from Hutschenreuther and selling designs, handpainted by his wife Maria.

Each fruit bowl in our EGGSHELL collection tells a story. The Homer Laughlin Priscilla pattern china was produced by Household Institute Company in the 1940s. Bentley Pope (of the Pope Gosser china company) was a master potter, while Charles Gosser worked as a jeweler before joining forces.

These Candlewick inspired pieces with hobnail and chrome accents were produced by Anchor Hocking in the 1950s. The Hocking Glass Company, a manufacturer of glassware since 1905 in Lancaster, Ohio, is named for the Hocking River. The company is still in existence today.
